The screening of the documentary -The meaning of water- in Normandy : What is the result?

A real recognition for the case study of the Tremblay-Omoville catchment area

The screening of the documentary "The meaning of water" co-directed by Baptiste Cléret (teacher researcher at the University of Rouen) and by Marine Gratecap (former coordinator of the Syndicat d'Eau du Roumois et du Plateau du Neubourg (SERPN)) brought together on Thursday, November 4, more than 130 people among whom we find elected officials, farmers, technicians and interested parties.

This projection allowed to support and to put forward the approach and the implication of the farmers for the preservation of the water resource (subjected to strong Nitrates stakes). Following this projection, Baptiste Cléret and Marine Gratecap as well as Thierry Leprou (animator), Fabien Artaud (vice-president in charge of the protection of the resource at the SERPN) and Jérôme Ratiarson (in charge of operation at the Seine-Normandy Water Agency) were able to exchange with the public to go further in the reflection.

The whole of this presentation made it possible to highlight the work of local co-construction produced by the technicians and the farmers of the Tremblay-Omonville BAC. As a reminder, the objective is to reach good water quality status, to do this Payments for Environmental Services (PES) have been proposed, adapted and implemented on the territory. These PES are financing tools for farmers who decide to develop or implement actions that go beyond the regulations in force.

The various discussions focused on the commitment and responsibility of farmers. The latter were able to express a certain satisfaction with this PES mechanism, which differs from current policies

The question of the effectiveness of the mechanism was addressed. The general public's lack of knowledge about the mechanisms of water transfer was felt, but the enlightened discussions helped explain this phenomenon and the time needed to obtain the expected results.

If you are interested in this projection, you can contact the SERPN's Resource Protection Department, which will put you in touch with the producers.
